Did you know you can use essential oils to help with hair growth?

This is a tried and true recipe I’ve been using that has helped promote the overall health (and growth) of my hair.

First things first.

Grab your bottle of shampoo. Whatever shampoo you use, grab it. (I use Purador Original Gold Label). For essential oils, you're gonna need Rosemary, Peppermint, Cedarwood and Lavender. I use Young Living Essential Oils exclusively. You want to use one drop per ounce of your shampoo. This bottle I have is 16 ounces, so I'm gonna do 16 drops of each oil in here. You can certainly back off on the number of drops even by half.

Here’s a quick tip on getting your oils out of your essential oil bottle. Slowly turn the bottle until you see the drop form. The oils come out at a different speed depending how thick or thin they are, but you can control it much better this way.

Once you’ve put all the oils in, put the cap back on your shampoo bottle and shake it up a little bit and you're good to go! For the best result, massage the shampoo gently all over your scalp. Leave the shampoo on for 2-3 minutes, then rinse. You could also try putting the oils in your conditioner instead, apply and gently massage into scalp, leave on for 2-3 minutes, and rinse.

Another way you can stimulate hair growth can be as simple as a gentle scalp massage at the end of the day. I mean, seriously, who wouldn’t want that? Even if you can’t seem to get someone to oblige, you can easily do this yourself. Massaging the scalp can stimulate the hair follicles and get the blood flowing under the skin, which can encourage hair growth.

And what about excessive heat? Giving our hair heat breaks if possible will help with our overall hair health. Too much-repeated heat (blow dryer, straightener, curling iron) causes damage to the hair shaft, resulting in brittle dry hair with a lot of split ends. Heat breaks down the bonds that keep our hair strands strong and can also dull the natural shine. If you can limit the days you absolutely need to have that ultra-straightened sleek look, your hair will thank you. Try letting your hair dry naturally as much as possible. I also found this low EMF hairdryer makes a huge difference (so much less frizz) when I do want to blow dry my hair. EMFs may have an adverse effect on the formation of hair follicles.
